Physical Development
- Learning to unclench their fists
- Beginning to reach for and grasp at things
- Improving head control and neck strength
- Beginning to lift head and chest during tummy time

Intellectual Development
- Responding to voices, noises and faces
- Beginning to examine objects, their environment and other people; learning to focus on things and will follow them with their eyes
- Is curious about new toys, people, places, sensations or experiences
- Beginning to understand routines and develop expectations; for example they may anticipate a feed if they are in held in a particular position, or get excited if they hear you preparing a bath.
- Starting to show more coordinated eye and hand movements.
Social Development
- Responding positively to touch, social interactions and play
- Can be comforted by familiar adults
- Beginning to use their face, body and voice to communicate and express their feelings
- Becoming interested in their mirror image
- Starting to initiate interactions
Emotional Development
- Recognizes and responds to mum and other primary caregivers; relishes feeling safe and secure; most babies love to snuggle and cuddle.
- May show fear by crying; will start at sudden or loud noises
- May feel lonely or bored
- Often joyful and easy to smile
- Beginning to recognize other's emotions; will be upset or uncomfortable with an angry tone of voice.
Language Development
- Even very young babies will imitate facial expressions and movements
- Beginning to coo and babble
- Often repeats sounds; practicing to get it just right
- Experimenting with the volume and tone of the sounds
- Imitating conversational patterns like turn taking
